Marie Gillain has given her career a real cross-border dimension by acting for great European names: from the French directors Jacques Doillon, Bertrand Tavernier, Philippe de Broca, Cédric Klapisch, Guillaume Nicloux, Anne Fontaine, Philippe Lioret or even Pierre Aknine; to the Italians Ettore Scola, Ferzan Ozpetek and the Taviani brothers through her country of origin, Belgium, including director Marian Handwerker, who made her won her first prize for her performance in Marie in 1993. In 1996, for Les Affinités électives she won the trophy for best actress at the Cabourg festival and won the Romy Schneider Prize the same year.
Marie Gillain is a regular guest at Les Arcs and came in 2014 for Valentin Valentin by Pascal Thomas before coming back as a member of the jury in 2012 under the chairmanship of Cristian Mungiu. She was also invited to the 10th edition in 2018.
