A leader in the new wave of contemporary Romanian cinema, Cristian Mungiu has made a name for himself internationally in only five feature films. His first film «Occident» was selected at the Directors' Fortnight, the following 4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days, Beyond the Hills and Baccalaureat each time were part of the official selection on the croisette and were awarded respectively by a Palme d'Or in 2007, a Best Screenplay Award in 2012 and a Best Director Award in 2016.
Cristian Mungiu was President of Les Arcs Film Festival jury in 2012 and awarded the Crystal Arrow to Danish director Tobias Lindholm for his dramatic thriller Hijacking.
